The Atom 500 signals Vaxis entering a new segment of the market. Affordable HDMI wireless video systems have been popping up everywhere lately and I guess it comes as no surprise that Vaxis want a piece of that pie.

Unlike previous products that were aimed at professional users, the Atom 500 is aimed at the Prosumer, YouTube, Vlogger market.

The Atom 500 consists of a HDMI TX and RX unit. Both work on the 5GHz frequency band so you aren’t going to get anywhere near the same operating range of a dedicated wireless video system.

Vaxis ATOM 500 is an affordable wireless video transmission set. It can transmit video signal at up to 1080p 60fps with the delay less than 0.1 seconds. The signal range is up to 500′ line-of-sight. Both transmitter and receiver have an OLED screen, which can display useful information, like video format, channel number, signal strength, and more.

The set offers HDMI connection only. The transmitter (TX) has two HDMI ports (HDMI in and HDMI loop out) and the receiver (RX) has two HDMI loop out ports.The metal body of both TX and RX features multiple 1/4-20 threaded mounts and compact design with integrated antenna. According to Vaxis, the connection should be robust enough even in complicated environments.

When it comes to power connectivity, Vaxis ATOM 500 offers either USB-C ports or optional Sony NPF battery mounting plates. The USB-C connector can deliver power from any USB-C power bank and it also acts as a data port for firmware updates.

There is either automatic or manual channel selection available with the Vaxis ATOM 500. It offers passcode protection, so users can have the ability to choose who will be able to receive the video signal. Users can choose between distance or quality priority depending on what is more important at the moment. It supports H.265 encoding.

Via the ATOM app, it is possible to monitor the image on an iPad or iPhone. It allows wireless monitoring, image record, and other tools, such as assisted focus, frame guides, gray scale, and more.

The app is currently available for iOS only. There is no information yet whether it will come for Android too. According to Vaxis, one transmitter can send image to four devices (one receiver and three iPhones or iPads) at the same time.
