Panther Specter Truss System: The Bolt-Together Modular Truss, Now in South Africa

The Panther Specter Truss System is a next-generation modular truss for film, broadcast and grip that bolts together instead of being welded, and it is now available in South Africa from Prosales, Panther's local partner. Built from 6082 military-proofed aluminium that is roughly 20% stronger than the 6061 used in comparable trusses, Specter lets grips and rental houses build cranes, car rigs, telehandler frames, turntable rigs and lighting structures from one bolt-together kit, with no welded seams to fail.

Why Specter is different

Bolted, not welded

Most truss is welded and folded. Specter is assembled entirely from precision CNC-machined parts joined with flange bolts and nuts, so there are no welded seams to fatigue or fail. Every part is field-serviceable, and you can pull it out of the truck and build with it straight away. It reaches full strength with bolts and nuts alone, with no washer plates or reinforcement accessories required.

Stronger aluminium, better weight-to-strength

Specter is machined from 6082 high-grade, military-proofed aluminium, which is close to 20% stronger than the 6061 alloy used in most extruded and welded trusses. That makes it one of the best weight-to-strength truss options available, which is why professionals use it for everything from softbox and stage pick points to telehandler frames and car rigs.

Compatible and flexible

Specter is 100% cross-compatible with existing modular systems like ModTruss and ModulusX, so it drops into kit you may already own. Connection points sit every 3 inches on all four sides, and an off-axis bolt pattern lets sections rotate at the end caps in degree increments, so angled and complex builds are straightforward.

What you can build

Because it is modular, Specter is really a build-anything platform for the grip and rigging department.

How to get started

Rather than sourcing dozens of individual parts, the easiest way in is one of Panther's ready-made packages, all available from Prosales:

You can also buy individual 6-inch truss sections in any length from 6 inches to 10 feet. For a specific configuration or a component not listed, our team will spec and source it for you.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Panther Specter Truss System?

Panther Specter is a modular truss and rigging system for film, broadcast and grip. It is machined from 6082 military-proofed aluminium and bolts together from CNC-machined parts, with no welded seams. Grips and rental houses use it to build cranes, car rigs, telehandler frames, turntable rigs, sliders and lighting structures.

How is Specter different from other truss systems?

Two main things. It is bolted rather than welded or folded, so there are no welded seams to fail and every part is field-serviceable. And it is made from 6082 aluminium, which is about 20% stronger than the 6061 used in comparable trusses, for a better weight-to-strength ratio. It also needs no washer plates or reinforcement to reach full strength.

Is Specter compatible with ModTruss or ModulusX?

Yes. Specter is 100% compatible with ModTruss and ModulusX, so it works with modular truss kit you may already own.

What can you build with Panther Specter?

Cranes and jibs, car rigs, telehandler frames, turntable and rainbow rigs, sliders, offset camera rigs, and softbox, lighting and stage structures. Because it is modular, it is effectively a build-anything platform for the grip department.

What sizes and lengths are available?

The 6-inch (6" x 6") series comes in 11 lengths, from a 6-inch section up to 10 feet. A larger 9-inch series is coming. You can buy individual sections or one of the ready-made packages.

Where can I buy Panther Specter in South Africa?
